How much does a geothermal
A geothermal heat pump system is a heating and cooling system that uses solar
energy, from the sun, stored beneath the ground. A geothermal system is a great way to potentially save hundreds
of dollars each year on your heating and cooling costs!
Typically a geothermal heat pump installation is around twice as much as a conventional air source
system. While it may be twice as much, it's also twice as efficient as the conventional system.
Geothermal heat pumps use heat from the ground to heat the home. Geothermal heat pumps are considerably
more efficient than air-source heat pumps and also more expensive to purchase and install.
The two most common types of geothermal heat pumps are ground source geothermal heat (also called closed-loop
geothermal or ground coupled heat pumps), and water source heat pumps.
If you are wanting to install a geothermal heating and cooling system in your existing home, a
local geothermal installer can assess your home and help you make an educated decision. Many factors will include
the energy efficiency of your home, the age of your home, the age of your current system, and your location.
